Novena to Saint Joseph the Worker
The Life of Saint Joseph
We first meet Joseph in the Gospels of St. Matthew and St. Luke. Each lists a genealogy of Jesus from King David, one from Solomon's royal line, the other from Nathan, who was the son of David and Bathsheba.
In the Gospel of Matthew, Joseph obeys the angel and takes Mary as his wife. After the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem, Joseph again follows the angel's instructions to take the family to Egypt to escape Herod's wrath (the slaughter of the Holy Innocents). ).
When the Holy Family enters Egypt, the pagan statues of their gods topple and fall, but no one in Egypt knows that it is because this humble family containing the true God has entered their territory.
A few years later, Herod dies and the angel tells Joseph again that they can return, this time to Nazareth. In the Gospel of Matthew, the people of Nazareth call Jesus "the carpenter's son". The translation could indicate a different type of worker in the trade, but traditionally he was known as a carpenter. Early church fathers (including Saint Justin Martyr) claim that Jesus was a carpenter, making yokes and plows for oxen.
When Jesus was 12 years old and the Holy Family was visiting the Temple in Jerusalem for Passover, Joseph and Mary discovered that Jesus was talking to the teachers of the law and answering their questions. This is certainly the fifth joyful mystery of the Rosary: the encounter of the Child Jesus in the Temple.
The happy death of Saint Joseph
Catholic tradition tells us that Joseph died in the arms of Jesus and Mary before Jesus began his public ministry.
Reason supports this tradition in the following two ways: first, if Joseph had been alive during Jesus' passion and crucifixion, the heroic saint would have fought like a lion to save his beloved adopted son. God, in his wisdom, knew that this would not serve the divine designs, so he made Saint Joseph the patron saint of the dying, having the happiest of deaths in the arms of Jesus and Mary.
Second, when Jesus is on the cross, he entrusts his mother to the apostle John's protection and care, something that would never have happened had Joseph been alive. (By extension, Mary and Joseph also had no biological children, so this too is evidence that Jesus' "brothers and sisters" mentioned in the Bible are actually cousins and other more distant relatives.)
How Saint Joseph met the Virgin Mary
We can learn more about the life of Saint Joseph through the testimony of private revelations given to various saints and mystics over the centuries. A common story among them is that the Virgin Mary was dedicated to God in the temple from a very young age, but was shown to be married, so all of David's male descendants were gathered for selection.
Clutching a dry branch, Joseph stood at the back of the congregation, not considering himself worthy to be the husband of such a virtuous and beautiful young woman. Mary and the priests were waiting for God to reveal their choice when the branch in Joseph's hand miraculously blossomed with white lilies.
Joseph and Mary, who consecrated themselves to God early in life, remained virgins throughout their marriage, demonstrating both their marriage and their vocations of consecrated virginity to the kingdom. (So Protestants are seriously mistaken when they misinterpret Scripture and claim that Joseph and Mary had marital relations and natural children who were brothers and sisters of Jesus.)
Saint Joseph in the church
In 1962, Pope Saint John XXIII. St. Joseph was added to the Canon of the Mass, right after that of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and in 2013 Pope Francis added St. Joseph to the other three Eucharistic Prayers.
1870 appointed Pope Pius IX. Saint Joseph, patron saint of the Universal Church. Pope Pius XII changed this festival to the feast of San José Obrero on May 1st.
Pius XII chose this date to fight the same date chosen by the Marxist labor movements and demonstrated that São José, as the patron saint of workers, is the true model of the dignity of human work.

Private revelation about San José
There are several books that describe the life of Saint Joseph and Our Lady. I recommend The Life of Saint Joseph by Maria Cecilia Baij (can be hard to find or expensive), orThe Life of Our Lady of Mary of Agreda.
Keep in mind that as Catholics we are not obligated to believe in private revelation, but the previous two books have the church bishops' assertion that they do not contradict the truths of the faith.
Bury a statue of Saint Joseph to sell your house
Some people bury a statue of Saint Joseph to sell their house. This practice can be superstitious, which is a sin contrary to the Catholic faith.
Rather, it is much better to faithfully pray the novena to St. Joseph and trust God to sell your home. God rewards such belief, but superstition, in which someone tries to manipulate God or the saints to do whatever they want, is never rewarded.
